In February 2025, The Assembly reported that Restored Church Raleigh, a church of the newly formed Restored Church Worldwide (RCW), had been recruiting students at N.C. State University since August 2024. Members approached students in busy areas of campus with invitations to Bible study. The church met in the student union and was tied to a registered student group.
Three first-year students who left told the reporter they were pressed to be baptized after only a few studies. They said leaders told them to disregard their parents, asked one to move in with members, and told him he could date only within the church. Two students and a parent reported the group to police, and the university's threat-assessment team opened a case. The university said only that it was aware of the church.
Questions to consider
- How long did you study before you were baptized? Did you feel pressured, or were you given the time and space to think the decision through?
- Were you encouraged to keep your family close, or to put the church ahead of them?
